3/8/2015 2 Comments Veneer!!Hi everyone, Yesterday I went to our local technical institution for a seminar on be retina techniques. It was a lot of fun and very informative. Below are some photos of the finished work I made during the seminar. On another note, my wife convinced me to check out a Target Store that's going out of business here in Canada. The deals aren't that great until I came across this FoodSaver model that was a floor demo. The discount was SUBSTANTIAL and the electrical cord wasn't even cut! It was a great deal.. If you're looking to get into veneer, go check out a closing Target store and see if they have the floor models discounted. I'm blown away at how cheap this one was. I won't say the price but it was too good of a deal to pass up. 3/8/2015 0 Comments Important date Blocks!Hi Everyone, Here are my important date block orders that I've completed so far. I'm really happy with the variance in the wood grains and colors that the customers chose. I have 2 sets of blocks left for the next customers looking for a specific color of the numbers and letters. They are all finished with child safe Tung oil for young mouths that want to explore these blocks. These sets turned out great and I'm eager to get them to their new homes! 3/8/2015 1 Comment Baby Audrey Grace!Hi Everyone! Say hello to our first daughter Audrey! She is absolutely beautiful and I'm a proud new daddy! Below are some name letters that I'm selling. They are hand cut out of birch plywood, sanded smooth and finished with boiled linseed oil. I mounted them to the wall above her closet in the nursery with pin nails. They look really good and I'm so happy she's here. Her mom really loves them but not as much as we love our new baby girl! Thanks for the love and support! 3/8/2015 1 Comment Magnet Bottle openers!Hey Everyone, Here's a couple of bottle openers I made. They are both maple and walnut scraps I had laying around in the shop. The really cool part about them is that there are rare earth magnets imbedded in the wood to catch bottle caps from falling to the floor when you open a bottle! there are three smaller magnets in the back face to allow them to magnetize to your fridge for quick bottle-opening access! I finished them with boiled linseed oil after chamfering the edges. They both turned out exceptionally well! I'll be posting a couple of them on my etsy page soon. Thanks for checking out my work! 2/15/2015 0 Comments How to assemble a Slim PencilHi Everyone, I'm in the process of editing a bunch of footage I have shot of my project work over the last few weeks. Here's the first one. How to assemble a pencil after it's finished being turned on the lathe. The carving process and bushings are the same as the slim pen but the assembly is a little different. Thanks for checking out my work! Enjoy! 2/11/2015 0 Comments WoodProjectsbyBagel on Etsy!Hi everyone, I've got lots of projects on the go to post on my new Etsy shop for you to buy! They have numbers and letters carved into each side using my dremel. It seems I've been favoring that tool lately... I painted the characters using matte finish acrylic paint and sanded the surfaces to give a clean look. I finished the blocks with child safe Tung oil which enhanced the grain and gave a really smooth finish. I will post a video of the carving and finishing process. I will be making these projects to order on Etsy! Search for Wood Projects by Bagel on Etsy.com!! 2/11/2015 0 Comments Cuttingboards! Finally!Hi everyone! I have made a couple of matching side grain cutting boards out of Maple with a really awesome looking walnut burl strip. I'm really liking the offset lines in wood projects lately. They are about 16" long by 9.5" wide with a hole in the corner with a routed edge on all sides. I applied three coats of Watco Butcher Block oil to the surfaces as the are going to be written on as a gift. I will put one more coat of oil on these after the marker has been applied. I really like the way these turned out I hope you do too! I will post versions of these to order on my Etsy site soon! 2/11/2015 0 Comments Important Date blocks in Bulk!Hi Everyone! After posting the important date blocks, i've gotten a few orders for some with specific colors. I've been working away at them after work for a few days and I'm making progress. The cubes I made this time around are joined using mitre joints completely to make the blocks look solid. I'm learning a lot about how to lay these blocks out to get a great looking joint that's clean but strong. Next up is working on the wide blocks and making blocks for the ends! Email me for more orders! These are really fun to make. I have a new process for transferring the numbers and letters to the blocks that allows me to work with requested colors. Stay tuned for some different colored letters and number variations!! Thanks for checking out my work! |
