3/27/2015 0 Comments Pens!Hi Everyone, It's been awhile since I've been able to set aside a couple of hours to turn some pens and I've heard of a few different techniques to try in the process. I found some scrap Purple Heart pieces in my shop that weren't large enough to make projects with so I cut them into pen blanks for some slim pens. One issue I've had with Purple Heart in the past is that it ends up not as purple as I'd like it to be so I found a few different sites that said to try using a flame to heat the wood and it will darken the purple and make the grain stand out. So I tried it finally and boy am I happy that I did! They look so sharp and smooth and, of course, purple! Here are some pictures. Thanks for checking out my work! More projects are coming!

3/24/2015 Last Important Date Blocks - for now...Hi everyone! Here's my last set of the batch of important date block sets I made. I'll be collecting a few more orders before I make up a batch of them again. These ones turned out really well! I'm really liking the real green color contrast between the ages look of the blocks. They are all made of spruce and were finished with child-safe Tung oil. Delivery this weekend!! Thanks for checking out my work! I'm in the process of making a bunch of different moves for the "business" side of things. More projects are to come!! 3/8/2015 0 Comments New Logo Video!Hi Everyone, Here's a video of my new WoodProjectsbyBagel.com logo. I'm really getting into this carving process. It's pretty fun. You should try it! 3/8/2015 2 Comments Veneer!!Hi everyone, Yesterday I went to our local technical institution for a seminar on be retina techniques. It was a lot of fun and very informative. Below are some photos of the finished work I made during the seminar. On another note, my wife convinced me to check out a Target Store that's going out of business here in Canada. The deals aren't that great until I came across this FoodSaver model that was a floor demo. The discount was SUBSTANTIAL and the electrical cord wasn't even cut! It was a great deal.. If you're looking to get into veneer, go check out a closing Target store and see if they have the floor models discounted. I'm blown away at how cheap this one was. I won't say the price but it was too good of a deal to pass up. 3/8/2015 0 Comments Important date Blocks!Hi Everyone, Here are my important date block orders that I've completed so far. I'm really happy with the variance in the wood grains and colors that the customers chose. I have 2 sets of blocks left for the next customers looking for a specific color of the numbers and letters. They are all finished with child safe Tung oil for young mouths that want to explore these blocks. These sets turned out great and I'm eager to get them to their new homes! 3/8/2015 1 Comment Baby Audrey Grace!Hi Everyone! Say hello to our first daughter Audrey! She is absolutely beautiful and I'm a proud new daddy! Below are some name letters that I'm selling. They are hand cut out of birch plywood, sanded smooth and finished with boiled linseed oil. I mounted them to the wall above her closet in the nursery with pin nails. They look really good and I'm so happy she's here. Her mom really loves them but not as much as we love our new baby girl! Thanks for the love and support! 3/8/2015 1 Comment Magnet Bottle openers!Hey Everyone, Here's a couple of bottle openers I made. They are both maple and walnut scraps I had laying around in the shop. The really cool part about them is that there are rare earth magnets imbedded in the wood to catch bottle caps from falling to the floor when you open a bottle! there are three smaller magnets in the back face to allow them to magnetize to your fridge for quick bottle-opening access! I finished them with boiled linseed oil after chamfering the edges. They both turned out exceptionally well! I'll be posting a couple of them on my etsy page soon. Thanks for checking out my work! |
